Bad idea

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

The FCC chief has said he is ok with telco’s charging “tiered” service to websites for bandwidth. Article here. I am going to go on the record and say this is a terrible idea. If they really want to charge for bandwidth used they ought to charge users for how much they download. They know that this won’t fly so they are trying to go thru the backdoor. This is bad and it has the potential to end the internet as we know it. Enough has been said elsewhere for me to need to say more. I think we all ought to care a lot about this. Email congress.

Public service reminder

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

As a public service announcement may I remind all my readers to backup your important documents. Now. The hard drive on my powerbook just inexplicably died. One second there, the next poof gone. Wow. Music, movies, pictures- all gone. The only bright side is that for some strange reason a couple days ago I had a strange feeling I should back up my computer and I tossed all my text documents, dbs and decks onto spare usb key. Lucky me. Losing that stuff could have really hurt.
